PIA was started in 1985 by Curtis Cluff, a result of his strong desire to help the poor and needy of the world. At that time, he sold all of his real estate holdings and used those funds to begin Partners in Action. In the past 2 decades PIA has touched the lives of tens of thousands of people in many parts of the world. PIA began by providing affordable housing to low income families in the United States. Over 5,000 affordable apartment units were purchased, which were renovated and restrictions placed on their use to ensure they would be used for low income families for 40 years. Also, over 350 single-family homes were purchased, which were then sold to low income, first-time home buyers. PIA donated the down payments and closing costs so that families could afford to purchase these homes. Partners In Action also operates a thrift store, a homeless food kitchen, two youth camps in the US and one in Mexico.
PIA’s main emphasis today is serving orphans and street children around the world. Involved in international outreach programs in several third world countries, they help to build, manage, oversee and support 12 orphanages/schools and over 1,000 children in Brazil (1), Mexico (1), Philippines (1), Kenya (1), Uganda (3) and Ethiopia (5).
